The bells now number 52 - the original set owned by the church having been enlarged by the team members over the years to almost 5 octaves. They are a mixed set, being the product of several founders: Henry Symondson, Warners of Spitalfields, George Welch, Mears (Whitechapel), and one bell, the 12F, is by John Peele.
The oldest bells date from 200 years ago, and the set has been showing signs of wear for a long time. The decision was therefore taken in 2007 to ask the foundry at Whitechapel to assess and subsequently refurbish the bells. This has so far cost £5,200 for the bulk of the work to be done, but a further £7,900 is required to bring the set up to standard.
In 2009 the team was fortunate to be awarded a Grassroots Grant of £5000, by the Broxbourne Council for Voluntary Services, which has funded the second stage of refurbishment and helped towards the cost of some of the missing bells.
